It might seem like the more locations you include, the better your gallery will be.
But after photographing destination couples across Perth and Western Australia, I’ve found the opposite is often true.
The best galleries rarely come from visiting the most places.
They come from slowing down, enjoying the experience and giving each location the time it deserves.
Quality Always Beats Quantity
Every time you move locations, you’re also adding travel time.
That means less time enjoying each place and more time sitting in the car.
It also means changing outfits, finding parking, walking to each location and constantly watching the clock.
By the end of the day, couples are often more tired than excited.
That’s why I almost always recommend choosing fewer locations and making the most of each one.
Is One Perth Pre-Wedding Shoot Location Enough?
If you’re staying in Perth and want a relaxed afternoon, one carefully chosen location can easily provide a beautiful variety of photographs.
A beach might offer sand, dunes, coastal paths, limestone walls and an incredible sunset—all within walking distance.
Rather than rushing to another location, you have time to enjoy the moment and let the session unfold naturally.
Why Two Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations Are Usually Ideal
For most couples, two locations create the perfect balance.
You might combine:
- Pinnacles Dessert with Lancelin Sand Dunes
- Fremantle streets with the beach.
- Boranup Forest with the Margaret River coastline.
The scenery changes without making the day feel rushed.
It’s also a great opportunity to include a second outfit if you’d like more variety in your gallery.

Can You Visit Three or More Pre-Wedding Locations?
There are certainly times when three locations make sense.
Usually, that’s when they’re close together or when your shoot is spread across multiple days.
Trying to squeeze three or four locations into a single afternoon often creates more stress than variety.
Instead of remembering the experience, couples remember the schedule.
Think About the Experience, Not the Number
When couples first start planning, it’s easy to think:
“If we’re travelling all the way to Australia, shouldn’t we see as much as possible?”
The answer is yes—but not necessarily during your photoshoot.
I always encourage couples to separate their holiday from the session itself.
Explore Perth before the shoot.
Spend a few days in Margaret River.
Visit cafés, beaches and wineries.
Then, when it’s time for your session, slow down and simply enjoy being together.
Your photographs will be stronger because of it.

Less Driving. More Moments.
This has become one of my biggest philosophies when planning destination pre-wedding shoots.
Western Australia is huge.
The more time you spend driving between locations, the less time you spend creating genuine moments together.
Some of my favourite galleries have come from couples who spent an entire afternoon exploring just one or two locations.
There was no rush.
No pressure.
Just time to enjoy the experience.
Those are the photographs that usually become favourites.
How Many Perth Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations Do You Need?
The goal isn’t to visit as many locations as possible.
The goal is to create photographs that feel natural, timeless and true to your relationship.
For most couples, one or two thoughtfully chosen locations are all you need.
When you give yourselves time to slow down, connect and enjoy the adventure, you’ll come home with something far more valuable than a long list of locations.
You’ll come home with memories that genuinely feel like you.
