The first thing that struck me when I arrived in Jarrahdale for this wedding was the colour.

Held on Saturday, 3 May 2025, the celebration arrived at the perfect point in autumn. Warm oranges, rich greens and earthy tones surrounded the little white church. Ella and Rick had a beautiful natural setting for their intimate wedding.

With about 25 guests, a ceremony at historic St Paul’s Church and final portraits among the trees of Langford Park, their six-hour Jarrahdale micro wedding felt relaxed, personal and complete.

Getting Ready at Home With Tilly and Penny

The day began at Ella and Rick’s home, which they had been renovating together.

Starting the photography there made the morning feel more personal. After all, it was not simply somewhere to get dressed. It was a home they had put their own time and care into creating.

At first, Ella and Rick shared the getting-ready space. Rick then dressed and left for the church while Ella changed into her wedding gown. In this way, they could enjoy part of the morning together while saving the first look for the ceremony.

Ella wore a flowing, floor-length dress with a lace bodice, delicate cap sleeves and a fingertip veil. Her niece helped with her hair and makeup, keeping the preparations simple and relaxed.

Their cats, Tilly and Penny, were also an important part of the morning. Although they could not attend the church, getting ready at home meant they could still appear naturally in the wedding photographs.

A Micro Wedding at St Paul’s Church in Jarrahdale

Ella and Rick held their ceremony at St Paul’s Anglican Church, a small historic church in Jarrahdale.

Although this was my first time photographing a wedding there, I had passed the little white church several times before. Each time, I thought it would be a lovely setting for an intimate wedding or elopement.

Ella and Rick’s wedding confirmed it.

With only 25 guests, the church felt warm and connected. It gave the couple a traditional church wedding while still suiting the smaller size of their celebration.

A Traditional Entrance With Live Harp Music

Sarah-Susanne from Harmony Sounds performed the ceremony music. Her harp was placed beside the altar near a window, where the soft light fell beautifully across the instrument.

The live harp music added something special to Ella’s entrance. It also suited the traditional feel of the small church.

Afterward, we created a few portraits of Ella beside the harp and used the nearby window light.

An Intimate Ceremony With Their Closest People

With only their closest family and friends present, the ceremony felt personal and calm.

The smaller guest list kept everyone close to the couple. From the aisle entrance and vows to the signing and congratulations, each moment felt warm and genuine.

Autumn Wedding Portraits Around the Church

Before the wedding, I scouted the area and found several pockets of autumn colour close to St Paul’s.

Once the family photographs were complete, we used the changing leaves for Ella and Rick’s portraits. The seasonal colours added warmth and texture, while the white church gave us a simple and timeless background.

Because these spots were close to the church, we did not need to spend much time travelling. Instead, Ella and Rick could return to their guests and continue enjoying the day.

Drinks, Candid Moments and Their Cat Wedding Cake

After the portraits, Ella and Rick returned to the church for drinks and time with their guests.

This relaxed part of the day gave me plenty of chances to capture natural moments. Without another formal event starting straight away, everyone could talk, laugh and celebrate together.

Tilly and Penny then made another appearance through the custom cat figures placed on top of the wedding cake. It was a small but meaningful way to include two important members of their family.

Finally, Ella and Rick cut their cake before leaving for the last portrait location.

Langford Park Wedding Photos With a Vintage Jaguar

To finish the photography, we travelled to nearby Langford Park.

Ella and Rick had hired an ivory Jaguar Mk5 limousine from Belle Classic Limousines. Since the car was an important part of their plans, they wanted it to feature properly in their wedding photographs.

The forest gave us the perfect setting.

Against the darker trees, the ivory Jaguar and Ella’s white dress stood out beautifully. Rick’s dark suit also worked well with the deeper forest colours.

The final photographs had a moodier feel than the warm autumn portraits near the church.

Langford Park brought the six-hour story to a natural close. Their day began at home, continued with their closest people inside a historic church and finished quietly among the trees.

A smaller guest list allowed them to spend time with everyone they invited. At the same time, they still had space to step away for photographs and enjoy a quiet experience together.
