Renata and Walter planned their wedding around the things they valued most: love, travel and time together.

Their day began with an intimate ceremony at Marlee Pavilion in Kings Park. Afterward, we flew by private plane from Jandakot Airport to Rottnest Island for their wedding photoshoot.

When they first shared the idea with me, I jumped at the opportunity. I had always wanted to photograph a wedding experience on Rottnest, and their plans felt like the perfect mix of romance and adventure.

An Intimate Ceremony at Marlee Pavilion

Renata and Walter married at Marlee Pavilion in Kings Park, with just two guests present.

The small ceremony allowed them to focus entirely on each other.

Renata wore a flowing A-line gown with a deep V lace bodice, fine straps and a soft skirt. She completed the look with a jewelled hairpiece and a bouquet of white roses.

She walked into the pavilion alone while Walter waited inside. For both of them, seeing each other for the first time was one of the most meaningful moments of the day.

Live Music and Personal Details

The ceremony was led by Liz Manera Celebrant, with live violin music from Riverside Ensembles.

One of their chosen songs was a violin version of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).” It was a fun and personal choice that made the ceremony feel like their own.

Renata and Walter also wrote personal vows and designed their wedding bands. During the ceremony, they joined two candle flames to represent the creation of their new family.

Their table included a beautiful cake, macarons and small gifts for everyone involved. These thoughtful details helped the celebration feel complete without needing a large reception.

Flying From Jandakot to Rottnest Island

After the ceremony and family photographs, we travelled to Jandakot Airport.

Renata is a pilot, so flying to Rottnest had a personal connection. It was not simply transport to the next location. The flight was part of the wedding experience.

The mood shifted from the emotion of the ceremony to pure excitement. During the flight, we could see Perth, the ocean and Rottnest Island from above.

A Relaxed Rottnest Island Wedding Photoshoot

After arriving on Rottnest Island, we stopped for lunch and a drink near the main settlement.

That pause gave us time to unwind after the flight before heading out for their island portraits.

Although we originally discussed using electric bikes, we ended up with an entire metro bus to ourselves. Having a large bus for only the three of us became one of the funniest and most memorable parts of the afternoon.

The bus took us toward quieter parts of the island, where we photographed at two coastal locations.

Rather than rushing between every well-known beach, we chose places that gave Renata and Walter space to enjoy the experience. The clear water, soft sand and open coastline created a beautiful contrast to the gardens of Kings Park.

We photographed in the afternoon light before I caught the final ferry back to Perth. Renata and Walter stayed on the island to continue their wedding getaway together.
