Maree and Marcus originally considered eloping. However, they knew their mums might not let them escape quite that easily.

Instead, they planned an intimate Kings Park micro wedding with fewer than 20 family members. Their ceremony at Marlee Pavilion was followed by city portraits around COMO The Treasury and a small reception at Wildflower.

Although it was a micro wedding, seven hours of photography allowed us to document both sides getting ready, the ceremony, family photographs, couple portraits and the beginning of their reception.

Getting Ready

Maree prepared separately with her family. Her fitted off-the-shoulder gown was designed by Moira Hughes Couture and found through Dion for Brides.

The clean design felt modern and timeless, while her long veil added movement to the photographs.

An Emotional First Look With Dad

Before leaving for the ceremony, Maree shared a first look with her dad.

His reaction was emotional, although his fun personality also kept the moment from becoming too serious. It was a lovely mix of emotion and laughter, which suited the relaxed feel of the day.

Because the preparations were not rushed, I could photograph this moment naturally. We also had time for candid family photographs before travelling to Kings Park.

A September Wedding at Marlee Pavilion

Maree and Marcus held their ceremony at Marlee Pavilion in Kings Park.

September is a lovely time for a Kings Park micro wedding. The colder part of the year is beginning to ease, while the gardens still feel fresh and green.

On this occasion, the cloudy conditions were perfect for photographs. The softer light gave us even skin tones and allowed us to work around the pavilion without harsh midday shadows.

Over the Moon Events created the colourful ceremony setup. Maree’s sister also arranged the flowers, making the styling even more personal.

Among the details was a family sword, which later made another memorable appearance at the reception.

An Intimate Family Ceremony

With fewer than 20 guests, Maree and Marcus could keep the ceremony focused on the people closest to them.

Maree had especially hoped her nan would be able to attend. Thankfully, she made it to the ceremony, giving me the chance to capture several quiet and candid photographs of her without placing her in the spotlight.

The small guest list created a warm atmosphere while still giving Maree and Marcus the experience of a traditional wedding ceremony.

A Bubble-Filled Ceremony Exit

After the ceremony, Maree and Marcus walked back down the aisle together.

Bubble machines filled the pavilion with bubbles as they made their exit. The moment felt playful and full of movement rather than overly formal.

Their guests also had plenty of fun with the bubbles, which created some wonderful candid photographs.

We then completed the family and group photographs before travelling into Perth for the couple portraits.

Perth City Wedding Portraits

Maree and Marcus wanted an architectural setting to contrast with the gardens around Marlee Pavilion.

We photographed around COMO The Treasury and the nearby cathedral area. The stone buildings, clean lines and covered walkways gave the portraits a polished city feel.

An hour was enough time to create varied portraits without keeping them away from their family for too long.

An Intimate Reception at Wildflower

Following the city portraits, Maree and Marcus joined their guests at Wildflower inside COMO The Treasury.

The small reception allowed everyone to sit together and enjoy a relaxed meal. During the final hour of photography, I documented the table setting, guest interactions, food and cake cutting.

The family sword from the ceremony returned for the cake cutting. It was certainly more dramatic than the average cake knife and gave everyone one final entertaining moment before my coverage ended.

I stayed long enough to photograph the first course before leaving Maree, Marcus and their families to continue their meal together.

Longer coverage does not mean a micro wedding needs to feel busy. Instead, it gives each part of the day more room to unfold naturally.
